AGI Bar: Beijing’s AI Hangout Where DeepSeek Tokens Come With Your Drink

What happens when artificial intelligence leaves the office, the laboratory and the computer screen—and enters a neighbourhood bar?

In Beijing’s Zhongguancun technology district, the answer is AGI Bar, an unusual meeting place where customers can discuss AI over drinks and access DeepSeek computing tokens through the bar’s Wi-Fi network. The venue has become a gathering point for developers, students, researchers and investors, reflecting how deeply AI is moving into everyday life in China.

What is AGI Bar?

AGI Bar is named after Artificial General Intelligence (AGI)—the still-theoretical idea of AI capable of performing a broad range of intellectual tasks at a human level or beyond.

Its location is particularly important. Zhongguancun is often described as China’s leading technology hub and sits close to major universities including Tsinghua and Peking University. For AI researchers and entrepreneurs, this means the bar is surrounded by talent, startups, investors and technology companies.

But AGI Bar is not simply decorated around an AI theme. It hosts developer events, research discussions and open-source gatherings, turning a traditional social space into an informal extension of Beijing’s AI ecosystem.

Why are DeepSeek tokens being offered with drinks?

The bar’s most unusual feature is its approach to AI access.

Customers can connect to its network and use an AI agent that provides access to DeepSeek tokens for coding. Reuters reported that the system runs with two Nvidia DGX Spark computers displayed at the venue.

The idea is based on a provocative comparison: AI should become as easy to access as Wi-Fi.

Normally, developers think about AI in terms of cloud subscriptions, API pricing and computing costs. AGI Bar turns that model into a physical experience—buy a drink, open your laptop and experiment with AI alongside other people working on similar problems.

Why is the signature drink called “AGI”?

The bar’s signature offering is a 9.9 yuan glass of foam, also called AGI.

Owner Song De sees several playful similarities between AI and alcohol, including hallucinations, bubbles and distillation. Even the bar’s Chinese name is built around a double meaning connected to knowledge distillation.

In AI, model distillation generally refers to transferring useful capabilities from a larger model into a smaller, more efficient one. In a bar, however, conversations can also be seen as a form of knowledge sharing—ideas distilled through discussion.

That combination of technical language and social culture explains the AGI Bar concept: AI learning without the formal atmosphere of a conference or classroom.

AGI Bar is part of a much bigger China AI push

The bar matters because it represents a wider trend.

China’s 2026 policy agenda is pushing AI deeper into manufacturing, education, healthcare and other parts of the economy. The government has also announced plans to build AI literacy across schools and lifelong learning, while universities are expanding AI-related courses and interdisciplinary programmes.

At the same time, AI adoption brings complications. Reuters has reported concerns about job disruption even as China expects AI to create new economic opportunities. This creates a striking contrast: while policymakers debate AI’s impact on employment, ordinary users are increasingly treating AI as something to learn, test and use every day.

AGI Bar captures that transition perfectly. The future of AI may not be shaped only inside Silicon Valley-style offices. It may also emerge in places where developers, students and entrepreneurs simply sit down together—and start talking.
